 चतुर चित्रकार

       एक  शहर में एक  बहुत  धनवान बुढ़िया रहती  थी। एक बार उसने एक प्रसिद्ध  चित्रकार से अपना चित्र बनाने के लिए कहा। चित्रकार ने उस बुढ़िया   चित्र बनाने के लिए कई दिनों तक मेहनत की। जब चित्र बनकर तैयार हो गया, तो चित्रकार ने उस महिला को अपने स्टुडियो में चित्र देखने के लिए बुलावाया।

         चित्र की खबर सुनकर बुढ़िया बहुत खुश हुई। वह चित्र देखने के लिए चित्रकार के स्टुडियो पहुँची। वह अपने साथ अपने कुत्ते "टामी"  को भी ले आई थी। बुढ़िया ने वह चित्र अपने कुत्ते को दिखाते हुए कहा, टामी डार्लिंग, देख तो, ये तेरी मालकिन हैं। पर कुत्ते ने उस चित्र  में कोई रूचि नहीं दिखाई।

          धनवान बुढ़िया ने चित्रकार की ओर मुड़ते हुए कहा,"मुझे नही चाहिए यह चित्र! मेरा कुत्ता "टामी" तक चित्र में मुझे पहचान नहीं सका।"

        वह  चित्रकार बहुत व्यवहार कुशल और बुद्धिमान था। वह अमीरों की इस तरह की सनक से भलीभाँति परिचित था। बुढ़िया की बात सुनकर  उसने नम्रतापूर्वक कहा, "मैडम आप कल फिर आइए ! कल मैं इसे इतना सजीव  रूप दे दूँगा कि यह चित्र आपकी शक्ल-सूरत से हूबहू मिलता-जुलता बन जाएगा। फिर आपका टामी इसे देखकर दुम हिलाता हुआ इसे चाटने लगेगा।"

       अगले दिन बुढ़िया फिर अपने कुत्ते "टामी" को लेकर चित्रकार के स्टुडि़यो पहुँची। कुत्ता चित्र को देखते ही अपनी दुम हिलाता हुआ दौड़कर उसके पास पहुँचा और उसे चाटने लगा।बुढ़िया यह देखकर पुलिकित हो उठी। उसने कहा, "वाह! कितना खूबसूरत चित्र बनाया है, आपने! मेरे टामी को यह पसंद आ गया है, इसलिए मुझे भी यह पसंद है। लाइए, इसे बाँधकर मुझे दे दीजिए। चित्रकार ने चित्र के लिए एक मोटी रकम की माँग की और बुढ़िया ने खुशी-खुशी मुहंमागी रकम अदा कर दी।
