 जैसे को तैसा-पंचतंत्र

          एक नगर में  जीर्णधन नामक बनिये का पुत्र  था । धन की खोज में उसने विदेश जाने का निर्णय लिया  । उसके घर में विशेष सम्पत्ति तो थी नहीं, केवल एक मनभर भारी लोहे की तराजू थी । उस तराजू को बनिये का पुत्र एक महाजन के पास धरोहर के रूप में रखकर विदेश चला जाता है ।

        विदेश से वापिस आने के बाद बनिये के पुत्र ने  महाजन से अपनी धरोहर रखी तराजू वापिस माँगी । महाजन ने कहा -" वह लोहे की तराजू तो चूहों ने खा ली ।" बनिये का पुत्र  समझ गया कि महाजन  उस तराजू को देना नहीं चाहता । लेकिन अब बनिये के पुत्र के पास उसकी  तराजू को पाने का कोई उपाय नहीं था । कुछ देर सोचकर उसने कहा -"कोई चिन्ता कि बात नहीं । चुहों ने खा ली तो इसमें  चूहों का दोष है, तुम्हारा कोई दोष नहीं । तुम इसकी चिन्ता नहीं  करो ।" थोड़ी देर बाद उसने महाजन से कहा - "मित्र ! मैं नदी पर नहाने  के लिए जा रहा हूँ । आप अपने पुत्र धनदेव को मेरे साथ भेज दीजिए , वह भी नहा आयेगा ।" महाजन बनिये के पुत्र की सज्जनता से बहुत प्रभावित था, इसलिए उसने तत्काल अपने पुत्र को उसके साथ नदी में  नहाने  के लिए भेज दिया ।

          बनिये ने महाजन के पुत्र को वहाँ से कुछ दूर ले जाकर एक गुफा में छिपा दिया । गुफा के द्वार पर एक विशाल शिला रख दी, जिससे महाजन का पुत्र धनदेव गुफा से भाग नहीं  पाये ।

          उसे वहाँ बंद करके जब बनिये का पुत्र  महाजन के घर वापस  आया तो महाजन ने पूछा -"मेरा पुत्र  भी तुम्हारे  साथ स्नान के लिए गया था, वह कहाँ है ?" बनिये ने कहा -"उसे तो चील उठा कर ले गई । "महाजन -"यह कैसे हो सकता है ? कभी चील भी इतने बड़े बच्चे को उठा कर ले जा सकती है ?" बनिया -"भले आदमी ! यदि चील बच्चे को उठाकर नहीं ले जा सकती तो चूहे भी मनभर भारी तराजू को नहीं खा सकते । तुम्हे  बच्चा चाहिए तो तराजू निकाल कर दे दो ।"

          इसी तरह विवाद करते हुए दोनों राजा के पास राजमहल में पहुँचे । वहाँ न्यायाधिकारी के सामने महाजन ने अपनी दुःख भरी कहानी  सुनाते हुए कहा कि, "इस बनिये ने मेरा पुत्र  चुरा लिया है ।" धर्माधिकारी ने बनिये से कहा-" इसका पुत्र इसे दे दो । बनिये का पुत्र बोला -"महाराज ! उसे तो चील उठा ले गई है ।" धर्माधिकारी -"क्या कभी चील भी बच्चे को उठा ले जा सकती है ?" बनिये के पुत्र ने कहा  -" प्रभु ! यदि मनभर भारी तराजू को चूहे खा सकते हैं, तो चील भी बच्चे को उठाकर ले जा सकती है ।" धर्माधिकारी के पूछने पर बनिये ने अपनी तराजू की सारी कहानी  सुनाई | इसके बाद महाजन ने बनिये के पुत्र से क्षमा माँगी और उसकी तराजू वापस लौटाई और अपना पुत्र लेकर अपने घर वापस आ गया |

Tit for tat-Panchatantra

      There was a son of a baniya named Jirnadhan in a city. In search of money, he decided to go abroad. There was no special property in his house, there was only one heavy iron scales. Baniya's son goes to a Mahajan and goes abroad as an inheritance.

         After returning from abroad, Baniya's son asked Mahajan to return the scales he had kept. Mahajan said - "The mice ate the iron scales." Baniye's son understood that Mahajan did not want to give that scale. But now Baniya's son had no way to get his scales. After thinking for a while, he said - "There is nothing to worry. If the mice eat, there is a fault of the mice, it is not your fault. You should not worry about it." After a while he said to Mahajan - "Friend! I am going to bathe on the river. You send your son Dhanadeva with me, he will also take a shower." Mahajan was very impressed by the gentleness of Baniya's son, so he immediately sent his son to bathe in the river with him.

          Baniya took Mahajan's son away from there and hid in a cave. A huge rock was placed at the entrance of the cave, so that Mahajan's son Dhanadeva could not escape from the cave.

          After closing him there, when the son of Baniya came back to Mahajan's house, Mahajan asked - "My son also went for a bath with you, where is he?" Banye said - "She took the eagle with her." Mahajan - "How can it be? Can an eagle ever carry such a big child?" Baniya - "Good man! If the eagle cannot carry the child, even the rats cannot eat the heavy scales of their heart. If you want a child, remove the scales."

          In a similar dispute, the two reached the king at the palace. In front of the judge there, Mahajan narrating his sad story said, "This bani has stolen my son." The Dharmadhikari said to Baniya - "Give it to his son. Baniya's son said -" Maharaj! He has taken the eagle. "Dharmadhikari -" Can eagle ever carry a child? "The son of Baniya said -" Lord! If a rat can eat heavy scales, the eagle can also carry the baby. "On being asked by the Dharmadhikari, Bania narrated the whole story of his scales. After this Mahajan apologized to Bania's son and returned his scales. And came back home with his son.
